Course introduction

9-Day Charcoal Portrait Master Class

The 9-Day Charcoal Portrait Master Class is our most comprehensive and immersive program, designed for those who want to develop a strong foundation in portrait drawing while creating meaningful, finished artwork.

Beginning with our Technical Class, you'll master the Science of Sketching method, learning eye-to-hand coordination, observation, and our signature dry-brush charcoal technique. Over the following sessions, you'll deepen your understanding of facial structure, proportion, light, texture, expression, and tonal values through guided practice and personalized feedback.

Throughout the course, you'll complete three full charcoal portraits:

Technical Portrait – Build precision, proportion, and technical confidence.

Personal Portrait – Develop texture, emotion, and artistic expression.

Self-Portrait –A reflective final project that brings together everything you've learned into a deeply personal work of art.

More than a drawing course, this is a structured journey of observation, patience, and creative growth. By the end of the program, you'll leave with three finished portraits, a refined understanding of portraiture, and the confidence to continue creating independently.

What You'll Learn

The 9-Day Portrait Program is an immersive and personalised journey into the art of human portrait drawing. Across thirteen intensive sessions, you will explore facial structure, proportion, light, shadow, expression, and emotional depth - all through the medium of charcoal and the dry-brush technique.

  • Create three complete portraits: one technical, one personal, and one final integrated portrait.
  • Build strong technical foundations, realistic accuracy, structure, and proportion.
  • Develop mood, softness, individuality, and emotional depth in personal portrait work.
  • Understand the human face as a living, expressive form rather than only a subject to copy.
  • Receive in-depth personal guidance, structured demonstrations, daily practice, and detailed feedback.
  • No prior portrait drawing experience is required; the program supports beginners and artists deepening their practice.
